A Surreal Short Film From the New York Fashion Film Festival

In this new series, Chris Labzda and Bon Duke, the co-founders of the New York Fashion Film Festival, curate a short film each week for T.

To mark the release of T’s Women’s Fashion issue, the first three installments in this series come from female directors, beginning with “Hors d’Oeuvre” by Monica Menez, which premiered at NYFFF in 2013. Menez has positioned herself as a leader among an emerging generation of filmmakers turning their focus to fashion as a platform for social critique. The German-born photographer and director bases her scenes on short stories, infusing everyday matters with elements of the monstrous and surreal. The resulting narratives are humorous, surprising, sexy and absurd all at once.
